The Nation Media Group (NMG) will host a two-day hackathon in Nairobi in collaboration with Strathmore University’s iLab, for technologists to explore generative artificial intelligence and other technologies’ applicability in media.
The event, scheduled for November 11 and 15 this year, is expected to bring together over 100 computer programmers, creatives engineers, product developers, and media enthusiasts to collaborate in building innovative technologies suited for the media industry.
Speaking at the partnership signing, Monicah Ndung’u, NMG’s Chief Operating Officer indicated that the organisation was excited to be partnering with Strathmore to tap into their knowledge in AI and data.
“This first-of-its-kind hackathon will bring together stakeholders from various industries, including the youth demographic, to co-create AI and data driven industry solutions that positively impact the society.”
The hackathon will focus on three main themes affecting the media industry – new revenue models, audience engagement, and emerging technologies that could be useful for the sector.
The Hackathon will be happening alongside the 3rd Global Data Science & AI Summit at the Strathmore University.
iLab’s director, Dr Joseph Sevilla indicated that the summit will bring together global thought leaders, from academia to industry, to deliberate the use of AI and data to innovate, influence policy, drive industry and economic development.
