Pan-African corporate advisory firm Adili Group has announced the launch of a new regional cyber security training programme amid growing concerns over the increasing Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered threats.
Adili Group chairman Chris Diaz on Monday said the firm has partnered with cybersecurity experts to provide over 130 specialised training programmes in an effort aimed at enhancing digital safety preparedness for homegrown organisations.
According to the firm, the programme will offer tailored training sessions designed to replicate real-world cyberattacks including phishing, ransomware as well as other forms of advanced persistent threats.
“As the digital landscape evolves, so do the risks. The Adili Cyber Training Arena is a global solution that allows organisations to actively engage with the types of threats they are likely to face, offering hands-on experience in a secure and highly advanced environment,” said Mr Diaz.
The development comes just weeks after the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) sounded the alarm over the rise of AI-enabled threats which is just one of the several emerging complexities taking a toll on the sector.
In its cybersecurity report for the three months ended September 2024, CA noted that cybercriminals are increasingly using AI-enabled attacks to enhance the efficiency and magnitude of their operations.
“They leverage AI and machine learning to automate the creation of phishing emails and other types of social engineering,” noted CA Director- General David Mugonyi in the report.
According to the regulator, system attacks contributed the bulk of detected threats during the quarter ended September, standing at 583.7 million and followed distantly by brute force and malware attacks at 38.1 million and 33.9 million, respectively.
Separately, cybersecurity experts have warned that organisations failing to prioritise research and development and increase cybersecurity budgets risk dire consequences as attacks grow increasingly complex.
Speaking at the Safaricom-led Regional Cyber Security Summit in Nairobi a fortnight ago, the pundits highlighted the rapidly evolving threat landscape and emphasised the need for continuous innovation and increased awareness.
